Palm Trees n Neon Lights
Intro
Some records drop you into a different time zone entirely. Palm Trees & Neon Lights opens the doors on a strip of 1980s Miami — palm trees silhouetted against a bleeding pink sky, a Testarossa idling under a glowing "Br00tal Productions" sign, the whole boulevard lit up in cyan and magenta. It's a vibe as much as it is an album.
In Dr Lekta's own words, this project sees him land in that world and cause "absolute bedlam" — a UK MC dropped straight into an American neon fever dream, accompanied by the smooth, synth-lined production of Miami outfit Br00tal Productions. Released August 14, 2026, it's a tighter, more focused body of work than a straight boom bap record — heavier on atmosphere, still built on the bars.
The Sound
Every beat on this project was produced, mixed and mastered by Br00tal Productions. Their signature here leans into warm analogue synth pads, driving basslines and drum programming that nods to 80s electro-funk just as much as it does modern boom bap — the kind of production that soundtracks a slow-motion drive down a rain-soaked highway at 2am.
It's a different lane to Dr Lekta's usual sample-heavy sound, but the DNA is the same: heavy low end, pocketed drums, and space left for the vocals to do the damage. The artwork — all neon signage and chrome — was designed by Dr Lekta himself, tying the visual world to the sound before a single bar drops.
The Collaborators
The feature list reads like a cross-section of the current underground. Boldy James pulls up on "Putting In Work," bringing the Griselda-adjacent street rap pedigree that lines up perfectly with the record's grit-under-neon feel. Mademelo lends a hook to "Neon Lights," and Tha Krimzun Chin joins the chase on "The Chase" — each guest slotting into the world Br00tal Productions built without breaking the mood.
It's a short, guest-heavy run by design — every feature earns its spot rather than padding the tracklist.
Prefects
Guest Feature
Merseyside MC and producer Prefects is a familiar face in Dr Lekta's camp. The two go back through the Do You Know What I Mean EP and shared the mic alongside B-Real of Cypress Hill on Montao's "Real Field Trip." Prefects brings that same raw, boom-bap pedigree out of the Liverpool underground into the world of Palm Trees & Neon Lights.
Two Worlds n One Sound
There's something fitting about a UK underground artist chasing this era of American excess. The golden age references that shaped Dr Lekta's earlier work — the boom bap drums, the dense lyricism — get filtered here through a different lens: less grey pavement, more chrome and palm trees. Same discipline, different postcode.
That contrast is the whole point. Miami nights, UK bars — one sound built out of both.
